Happy Tails Update

Just two months ago Ben was in a cold and scary shelter
facing euthanasia.
NASRN would not have even known he was there
if it hadn't been for a volunteer scanning the shelter pictures
and sending us the information on him.
Who would have known that volunteer
would end up being not only Ben's Rescue Angel
but also his new mom as well.

Kate drove 6 hours round trip to get Ben
out of the shelter and, after fostering him for a bit,
she and her family decided that they just couldn't bear
to give him up.

Ben has put on some much needed weight and
is starting to relax and feel like he is really home now.
He even plays and acts silly now and then.

Here are some pictures of Ben enjoying life
on the beach and at home with his new family.

Its only been a little over a month since we first received word
about this 4 month old puppy in a Houston area shelter.
His family moved in with relatives and couldn't keep  him.
Lucky for Sam there was a local foster home
that was able to take him in and hold on to him
while NASRN worked on a transport to his
foster home in Arkansas.

Sam was lucky enough to hitch a ride
with pilot David Jennings with K9 Airlift.
David flew Sam from Houston to Texarkana
where Sam met up with his foster parents
Norma & Denis.

"Sam & David w/K9 Airlift"

"Sam meets his new dad, Denis, after his plan ride."

Not long after Sam arrived at his foster home
he became sick.  Norma & Denis took him to the vet
& he tested positive for parvo.
Sam spent several days in the doggy hospital
before he was well enough to go back home.
He was lucky that Norma & Denis recognized he was sick
and immediately sought medical care.
Thanks to the wonderful care of his vet and Norma & Denis
Sam is back home and enjoying life.

"Sam checking out "his" horses"

After all they have been through this past month,
Norma & Denis have decided to join the
"Failed Foster Club"
and have made Sam a permanent member of their family.
We are SO happy for Sam!!

"Sam can't decide if he likes water or not!"

Judging from these pictures,
it looks like Sam hit the jackpot!

A huge thank you to all of the volunteers
that helped this pup get out of the shelter
and to his new home in Arkansas:
Thank you:
Tammy for coordinating his shelter release
Janet for temp fostering in Bay City
Michelle for transporting Sam to Houston
David for flying Sam to Texarkana
Juliana, our amazing Transport Director for setting up the transport
Norma & Denis for opening their home to
this sweet pup

Does this look like a happy pup or what??

Eva is heartworm negative and fully vaccinated.
She seems in decent health other than being skinny.
She is very scared right now
but is a very sweet and friendly girl.
She LOVES kids!
We haven't had the opportunity to evaluate her

Gerdie and Goldie are 2 1/2 year old spayed female (sisters)
Anatolian Shepherd Dog x Great Pyrenees crosses.
Their owner was unable to keep them so they are now in foster care.
They are very bonded so they are available for adoption only as a pair.
The girls are both very sweet and friendly and are big love bugs.
They are good with other dogs but would probably do best as the only female dogs.
They are good with goats and chickens and also good with children.
Gerdie is a "tri-pawd" dog, she lost a front leg in an accident about a year ago.
Both girls weigh right around 100 pounds.

Please email Carleen for more info

all the lovin' she can get.
She is good with children and good with other dogs.
She ignores cats.

Safa has lived her whole life on a chain.

She ended up in a shelter and the owner did not want to reclaim her.

Mickey was rescued from a shelter where he was facing euthanasia.
His new owner took him home and he fit in well
with her other dogs and gets along with
everyone just fine.
Mickey's downfall is that he chases horses.
His owner is no longer willing to keep him and
will take him to the shelter if rescue is not able
to find a foster or adoption for him.

Mickey is about 2 yrs old.
He is an Anatolian mix and is about 50 lbs.
He looks like a miniature sized Anatolian =)
He is good with all dogs, both genders and all sizes.
Has not been tested with cats.
Mickey is very friendly, good with people
and loves kids.

He is neutered and current on shots, no health issues.

Please contact Bruce for more info
if you can help Mickey by offering a foster or adoptive home

Annabelle's Story:
Annabelle was going to be shot by her owner because she "wasn't working out" as a working dog.
Luckily for her, a neighbor intervened and took Annabelle. They were unable to keep her because she was "too big"  so they took her to a shelter.

Annabelle was slated to be put down in the shelter so we pulled her and are now paying to board her in a kennel. You can see by her sad face that she is not happy in the kennel.
It's noisy and scary.  She isnt eating enough and is stressed out.
Annabelle is HW neg and current on shots. She is VERY sweet, good with male dogs and is naturally a wonderful guardian. Can you help Annabelle?

Please email Janna for more info:

Remy was found wandering a highway with a piece of rope around his neck that he apparently chewed through. That tells you what kind of life he's had thus far.
Remy is about 1 year old, neutered current on shots and heartworm negative.
He is 28-29 inches at the shoulder and weighs a skinny 88 pounds. He has a very soft and plush coat and a
huge head and very big feet.

Remy is just a big goofy and silly puppy. He is very friendly and good natured, good with other dogs and is very playful. He would love to have a foster or adoptive home with another dog to play with.
Remy is also in a boarding kennel because we have no open fosters.

UPDATE: "ADOPTED"June Bug is a 2.5 yo spayed female Anatolian Shepherd x Great Pyrenees.

Her owners are forced to find her a new home because their son is allergic to her.

June Bug is fully vetted, spayed, heartworm negative and weighs 112 pounds.
She is housebroken and walks on a leash.
June Bug has been raised with children and is very good with them, even youngsters.
If you have another dog, she would most likely do best with a male dog as a playmate/companion.
This is a very pretty and good natured dog who is an excellent family companion and guardian.

PLEASE let us know if you might be able to foster her or if you are interested in adoption
