Young adult male in urgent need of foster care!  He was picked up as a stray.  Is very friendly with people and is non reactive to other dogs at the shelter.
This is a large boy, we are uncertain of what breed(s) he might be but we do feel he is a flock guardian breed, possibly mixed with something else..... cuteness maybe?  =D
He is a good looking dog that certainly deserves another chance at a good life!

McAlester OK:

Marley is a young adult, neutered male ASD Pyrenees cross.  His "owners" didn't want him anymore so they drove him somewhere and dumped him.  But he found his way back home....not once but three times.
So they finally decided to just shoot him.  Fortunately, a local rescuer was contacted and she was able to pick him up and get him to a safe place.

Marley is good with other dogs, cats and kids.  He's a super friendly boy and handsome too!

Meet Early.  He is a very handsome neutered male Anatolian Shepherd Dog, appx DOB 5/15/11.

Early is good with other dogs and friendly with people.  His former owner neglected Early and his sister and were given away to someone that wanted them to live with their chickens.  That did not work out well so they dumped both at the shelter.

Unfortunately, no one has cared enough about Early to provide him with heartworm protection and consequently he tested positive.  We will immediately start him on the slow kill method with ivermectin.
He is not exhibiting any signs or symptoms of the disease and since he is so young we expect him to make a full recovery.

For more information on this handsome boy please EMAIL US

Stella is a beautiful spayed female Bosnian Tornjak Shepherd Dog.
Bosnian Shepherd Dogs are an ancient flock guardian breed that is very similar in characteristic to the Anatolian Shepherd and other flock guardian breeds.
Stella is a lovely girl!  She is friendly with people and good with other dogs.  She is a rather large girl and is not very graceful, so for these reasons, she is best suited to a home with children over the age of 8 yrs old.  She may knock over younger children in her excitement.
Stella will make a wonderful personal or family companion and guardian.  Her estimated DOB is 2/14/12.  She will be a large sized dog when fully grown, 90+ lbs.

Mountain Home, Arkansas
Chakra is a one year old (DOB 10-31-11) purebred Anatolian female. She has been guarding a variety of animals since she was very young and needs a working home to be happiest. She is gentle and sweet with humans and would appreciate a bit of attention each day also. Chakra would do best with a male canine companion to work with and play with occasionally, as she still is young and puppyish at times. She is especially good with mini horses, donkeys, cows and similar critters. She is fully vetted. Just a real nice dog!

Blondie is a beautiful 1 year old spayed female Anatolian Shepherd Dog.  She is good with other dogs and is very friendly with people.  She is housebroken and knows basic commands. Blondie stands 29 inches at the shoulder and weighs 95 lbs
Blondie is the biggest sweetheart!  She doesn’t have an ounce of aggression in her beautiful body.  She gets along very well with the two Anatolian males in her foster home, and has adapted to the three cats as well.  She loves going for her morning jog and then loves to romp outside in the fenced in yard with her buds.  Blondie knows the basic commands and although she needs to be supervised indoors she listens very attentively. She would do very well in a household with another large dog and lots of exercise and attention.  Blondie becomes very attached to her people and would make a loyal, loving, companion.

Meet Drake!  His appx DOB is March 1, 2012.  He is a neutered male Anatolian x Great Pyrenees cross.
Drake is a super sweet and friendly boy.  He needs to learn a few manners as he is still ALL puppy but he has such a great personality that he is definitely worth a little effort.
Drake will make a great companion dog and would love to have another large, playful dog to romp and wrestle with.

Since he is a pretty big puppy he will do best in a home with children over the age of 5.  He doesn't have a mean bone in his body but he has all the grace of a bull in a china shop and may easily knock a little one over by accident.

Moose is a 150 pound teddy bear of a dog! He is a 3 year old purebred Anatolian that is true to the Anatolian nature - a loving, loyal family companion and wary of strangers. Moose has always been an outdoor dog and he likes his goats but he has the personality that could transition to the indoor/outdoor suburban life. He is safe around other livestock except for chickens. Moose loves human interaction and would not be happy being left alone all the time. He likes kids, cats and dogs and will be great to have around your large family yard or your small family farm so long as he gets his human time too. Moose is everything we love about the Anatolian!

Stonewall is a 2 yo pure bred male Anatolian Shepherd Dog.
He was hit by a car and lost one of  his front legs but that doesnt slow him down.

This is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet.
He greets new dogs and cats alike with a wag of the tail.
He loves people and all he really wants is to love and be loved.

Dugan is a three year old neutered male Anatolian Shepherd Dog mix.  His current owner spotted him in the shelter and couldn't bear to leave him there so he adopted Dugan, even though he lives in an apt.   He is fostering Dugan until a more appropriate home can be found where Dugan will have a nice fenced in yard to run around and play.

Dugan weighs 80 pounds and stands 27 inches high at the shoulder.  He is current on shots and heartworm preventative and is in good health.
He is housebroken, walks on lead and knows basic commands.

Dugan is great with other dogs and he  loves children.  He is also good with cats.

Now, if you're looking at this little doggie and thinking she doesn't look much like an Anatolian Shepherd Dog I would have to say you're correct.   An Anatolian Shepherd Dog, she is not.
What breed she is, I really don't know.

All I know is she ended up in a kill shelter awhile back and she was a very sick and pitiful looking little girl.
A shelter volunteer sent us a picture of her, curled up in a corner, looking like she was knocking on death's door.  Which she probably was.  We were told she was 2 to 3 months old and they thought she was an Anatolian mix.  We all agreed we weren't sure if she was really Anatolian or not but this volunteer said she would take her in and foster her if we would  help her find a home.
We said okay!

Fast forward to today......Nyla is no longer sick!  Yay!  But she is not 2 or 3 months old (more like 9 months) and she is most definitely not an Anatolian or mix.  She's about 18 inches tall and weighs 30 pounds.
And the shelter volunteer that begged us to save her, who promised to foster her?  She backed out and said she's too small, she no longer wants to foster her. =(

So the good news is that Nyla is healthy and ready for a loving family.  The bad news is we no longer have a foster for her.

We honestly have no idea what breed mix she might be.  If you have a guess, feel free to email us!
Like I said, she's about 30 pounds and 18 inches tall.  She is appx 9 months old so when she is full grown she will not be a very large dog.

She is housebroken, crate trained, friendly with people, can get along with other dogs.....she is still very much a puppy and needs to learn some manners but over all she will make a nice little companion dog.  Did you notice what a pretty smile she has?

Please help us spread the word for Miss Nyla to find a foster or adoptive home.  She is current on shots and will be spayed next week.

Charlie and Delta were turned into the shelter because their owners could no longer care for them.  One look at this pair and you know that is right.   They have not been well cared for in quite some time but they remain hopeful and trusting.

Charlie and Delta are young, appx 10 months old, spayed and neutered, (male and female) Anatolian Shepherd Maremma Sheepdog crosses.   They are both friendly with people and good with other dogs.

They are both in need of either a foster or adoptive home. They do not need to stay together.

Theia is a beautiful young girl, about 1 year old.  She may have some Pyrenees in her since she has rear double dew claws but she has the shorter coat of an Anatolian Shepherd.

She is a very sweet and friendly girl who seems to be housebroken and well socialized.  She seems to be good with other dogs so far however we have not had the opportunity to thoroughly evaluate her yet.

We are looking for a foster home for Miss Theia.

Pasha is a 6 year old spayed female Anatolian Shepherd Dog.   She really is a sweet and easy going girl.  She is good with other dogs and prefers older children vs young and rambunctious kids.  If she has a canine companion she will do best with one close to her age and energy level and one who will not try to boss her around.
Pasha is a quiet, gentle soul. She is a mild-mannered, distinguished lady dog who will do best in a quiet household.
She is going to be happy to find a comfy spot or a nice cool floor in the summer to just hang out and relax. She is housetrained and should settle in easily to a new home.
Pasha is a calm girl, she is not one to rush. She is happy taking her time. Pasha would be best in a home with older kids who can be respectful.
Pasha seems a bit independent and to herself but if you give her the chance you will find a sweet, social friend.
Recommendations: - Easywalk harness to prevent pulling. - A quiet, calm home environment. - Best suited for a home with children over 12. - May not be best suited for dog parks. She will much prefer quiet neighborhood walks to a crazy day in the dog park.

Murphy is a 4 year old neutered male Anatolian Shepherd Dog.  His owner recently went through some personal changes and feels Murphy would be happier in a home with less dogs and an owner who was able to spend more time with him.

Murphy is good with other dogs, both male and female, and is also good with cats and horses.  He's good with children, as well.
He is housebroken, knows basic commands and walks on lead.

Murphy stands 30 inches at the shoulder and weighs 100 pounds.  He is current on shots and does not have any health issues.

Transport assistance is available within an appx range of 1,000 miles.  Additional transport help may be available to the Pacific Northwest for an additional fee (to transporter).

"Jerry's shelter picture"

Jerry is a 4 year old Great Pyrenees/Kommondor mix who had lived most of his life on the end of a chain in Kentucky.  He escaped repeatedly but was always given back to his owner even though it was obvious that he was not well cared for.
Finally, the owner decided to let Jerry go and he was impounded at the local shelter.
The picture above is how he looked when he was in the shelter.
As you can see, he was in pretty bad shape which is why we were moved to help him even though he wasn't an Anatolian.   One of our most dedicated foster moms, Jody Shaw, stepped up to take him and that set the wheels in motion for Jerry to begin his journey to a better life.

With the help of volunteers Jerry was transported to Ohio for some much needed attention, where Jody fostered him and made sure he was attended to medically. Fast forward a year and look at Jerry now, after six months at Jody’s retreat he was adopted by the Hart Family in Rockford IL. He now lives with his new family in Rockford, Illinois.

Adjusting to his new home didn’t take long. Jerry now has 3 other brothers to chase and play with, two of which were NASRN rescues as well. Jerry now lives a life of leisure, frolicking in his backyard & chasing his brothers and those pesky squirrels. When not running around the back yard he loves all the attention he deserves and is a huge “Lap Dog”.

He’s got it so GOOD now! Recently Jerry was groomed and received a cute  Puppy cut for summer- look how well he is doing now…

These pictures were taken of Koda about 3 weeks ago when he was dumped at the shelter for killing chickens.

Although he did not realize it at the time, this was the day that changed his life.......for the better!

Koda is a 9 month old Anatolian Shepherd x Maremma Sheepdog cross.  He was purchased as a puppy to be a livestock guardian dog.  His first owner said he was good with their goats and chickens but they had four other male dogs and poor Koda was continually being beaten up.
So the owner decided to give him to someone that wanted a guardian for their chickens.

The new owner said Koda wouldnt stay home and kept escaping.  His male dog beat up on Koda, too, so maybe that had something to do with it.  The new owner decided to stop feeding Koda and hoped he would leave and just not come back.

Apparently this idea didn't work well because when Koda got hungry he did what he had to do to survive and he ate a chicken.   Well, the owner became even more mad at Koda and continued to withhold food.
Koda got sick and one of the neighbors called animal control.  Thats when the "owner" decided to just give Koda to AC and be done with him.

NASRN received word from a shelter volunteer that Koda needed help to get out of the shelter so we made arrangements to pull him and have him vetted.   It turned out that Koda really was sick.....he was loaded with hookworms and whipworms plus seemed to have a pretty bad upper respiratory infection as well.

He spent a week or so at the vet clinic recuperating and receiving IV fluids.....and then his new dad drove down from South Carolina to pick him up.  Soon Koda found himself on the road, making a fresh new start and leaving the past behind him.

Koda's new dad says Koda adores his plus green alligator toy and treats it with great care and kindness.  He's also figured out that Kong toys are fun and that air conditioning and dog beds are absolutely wonderful.

We would like to thank Stephanie Blanton, one of NASRN's newest Rescue Coordinators,  for all of her hard work  putting all the plans in place for Koda to be pulled from the shelter, vetted and then adopted.
Great job Stephanie!!

A big thanks to Koda's new dad, Joe, for opening his home and heart to this big guy and for making the ten hour round trip drive to bring him home.

Koda is one of the lucky ones!!
He made it out alive.
Please spread the word to family and friends and anyone else that will listen......

Joey is a 2-2.5 year old Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepard male. He is a sweet, fun loving guy that acclimates well with other dogs and pups, and is cat friendly. He is well socialized with people, adores kids, has good leash manners and travels great on car rides.

Although he was raised with goats as a family dog/farm dog he failed as a livestock guardian because he started chasing the babies which is a common issue with young lgds. Joey would do great as a family dog, he loves being with his people and is a mannerly boy. Joey prefers to spend most of his time outdoors but he does like to come inside and spend time with the family as well.

He will not be adopted as a true lgd as he just didn't take his job seriously enough, too playful and would prefer to be with his people; but he would do well as a family pet on a small farm as he is livestock safe for a family that either has adult livestock only or can restrict his access to the babies.
Joey is utd on vaccinations, heart worm negative, neutered, dewormed and utd on monthly heart worm and flea/tick preventative meds. If you are interested in adopting Joey please download the adoption application at our website
For more information on Joey please contact Brenda Graves
